- 1967: Merger Treaty (Treaty of Brussels)
The Merger Treaty was signed in 1965 and came into force by 1967. It “merged” the existing three treaties of the ECSC, the EEC and the Euratom that would from then on by administrated by a single Council of Ministers and one Commission. The Treaties and the Communities themselves, however, were not merged. Its purpose was to simplify and streamline the institutions of the Community.
